1.) How do I determine what data you have and is it relevant to my areas of interest?
There are two ways to review the data prior to buying the service. The user may 1.) go to the main website (www.PetroEdgeSolutions.com) and view a static map that shows the coverage for the entire world or 2.) For more detail, click on the "Download Data" link which will open an Excel spreadsheet that lists information by Region, Country, Basin, and site. Save the spreadsheet to your computer. The spreadsheet will show the lat/long for each site, if available, and what analyses have been performed for that site.
2.) Since I travel to remote areas without internet access, can the data be downloaded, or can the database be provided on different media?
Yes, all tabular data can be downloaded to an Excel spreadsheet.
3.) What will the licensing fee be per year?
Licensing fees range from $20K/year to a maximum of $50K/year depending on whether an individual purchases a license to an individual region or the entire global database
4.) What are the regions?
Africa; Asia; Australia; Central & South America; Europe; Gulf of Mexico & Caribbean; Middle East; North America; & Russia.
5.) If we have partners at a site can they see the data we have obtained and can they use the data?
Yes, data may be shared with respect to a common site with co-operators. Co-operators cannot have access to other data from the global database.
6.) Do you plan to add data as time goes on?
Yes, we have over 13,000 oil samples with a variety of analyses completed. We will continue to analyze those samples to provide additional data each year. Additionally, we expect to enter additional data from sources such as national databases and literature data.
7.) Are there ways to receive discounts?
Yes, users may receive a 5% discount when they contribute data for 300 samples or more. Data must include TOC data, RockEval data, or GC data and must be accompanied by the minimal relevant georeference information such as site name, basin name, and lat/long.
8.) Is the data leased or purchased?
The data is leased. If a user does not renew their license they must remove all PetroEdge Solutions data from their system.
9.) Is the site simply a data repository or are there other features associated with PetroEdge Solutions™?
The site not only contains multiple search routines for the site, but also has interpretive charts that automatically chart selected data. The site also has patented technology that allows users to view oil chromatograms and fragmentograms on-line. These are actual data files (not JPEG images), when present, which the user can zoom-in, zoom-out, over-lay chromatograms, etc. which cannot be accomplished with images.
10.) What is the source of the rock data? USGS, Canadian GS, Baseline Resolution, Inc. data and literature.
11.) Is this rock data data mainly TOCs, S2 yields and that sort of data? Yes!
12.) I would assume the rock data it is also from a variety of sample types (outcrops, cuttings, core etc.)? Correct!
13.) There was a category in your spreadsheet called "Other", what is the other? Other can be water, emulsion, or where the sample type was not specified or unclear (e.g. generic organic liquid; generic organic solid; generic sample from non-oil; organic liquid, and organic solid).
14.) There are a wealth of gas data, but are these manily compositions or is there also isotopic data? There is some isotopic, but the majority is compositional data.
15.) And what is the source of the gas data? USGS, Canadian GS, Baseline Resolution, Inc. data and literature.
