Extended Delaware & Permain Basin Shale Gas Studies

Prose Petroleum and Humble Geochemical Services have initiated an extensive to our Delaware Basin shale gas study. This project consists of geochemical data on additional wells in Culberson and other counties in the Permian Basin, Texas. Other wells and counties will be added in separated phases to this study.

Geochemical data and synthesis will include:

    • Total organic carbon (TOC)
    • Rock-Eval analysis
    • Vitrinite reflectance
    • Product fingerprints

Geochemical evaluation of the prospectivity of Barnett Shale or other black shale prospects requires sufficient knowledge of the decomposition of organic matter and the decomposition of oil into gas. Organic richness is directly related to gas yields so total organic carbon (TOC) and adsorptive capacity is related to the residual carbon content. Thermal maturity parameters such as vitrinite reflectance, Rock-Eval Tmax, and transformation ratio are essential risking parameters needed to accurately evaluate the likelihood of commercial flow rates.
