Brios Study

Geochemical Solutions International, Inc. (GSI)

Summary

In anticipation of the 6th Brazilian Licensing Round, GETECH, DIGs (Dickson International Geosciences) and GSI (Geochemical Solutions International, Inc.) announced a unique combination exploration tool for assisting evaluation of acreage in the Santos, Campos and Espírito Santo Basins (SCES).

Basin architecture and structure as interpreted from geologic, gravity and magnetic data, combined with an analysis of oil systems from hydrocarbon samples, piston cores and heat flow measurements, will help clients:

  • Define the boundaries of individual petroleum systems
  • Identify directions of and barriers to hydrocarbon migration by oil family
  • Distinguish between syn-rift -I and -II provenances and locate generative lacustrine sub-basins
  • Differentiate between oil and gas-prone systems and prospects
  • Calibrate basin models for hydrocarbon generation and migration basins

Data Source

The work built on multiple underlying components: DIGs' SAMBA3 SCES study and GSI oil studies, piston core and heat flow data for each basin, which must be licensed separately.

SAMBA3 uses geologic, gravity and magnetic data to:

      • Infer controls on sediment distribution (Dickson et al., 2003a
        & b, available on request)

      • Allow correlation of mini-basins, syn-rift architecture, salt features
with inferences for depth and detachment of salt

      • Resolve structural boundaries of basin, sub-basin and crustal type

      • Correlate volcanics in the Santos and Espírito Santo basins

The underlying GSI projects provide:

      • Surface seep data from more than 1300 piston cores

      • Heat flow data

      • Detailed oil family analyses from >250 samples in Brazil's
        most complete set of oils

This study is a continuation of our ongoing commitment to providing high quality interpretations of the major sedimentary basins of the South Atlantic.

BRIOS Study

The study is the result of research between GETECH, DIGs and GSI that leverages geological insights and data, in the latest GETECH/DIGs SAMBA 3 SCES study, with GSI's advanced geochemical analyses of oils and their families. Combining these diverse data types in a GIS environment triggered a unique understanding of the petroleum systems that will assist prospect screening and basin modelling, especially of the 'Blue Blocks'.
